We’re officially one of the top 250 privately-owned businesses in the North West, in a new list published by leading business news outlet Insider Media.
Ranking businesses in each region, the Top 250 lists celebrate high growth companies that have seen impressive performance, whilst retaining private ownership. Other businesses on the North West list include household names such as sportswear brands Montirex and Adanola, fitness club operator Total Fitness and an organisation we know well – umbrella accountancy firm PayStream.
Four decades in business
For the NRL Group, having first set up business in Cumbria in 1983, family-ownership is an important part of our legacy and our future. It provides reassurance to our clients, colleagues and candidates that decisions are always made with people’s best interests at heart. As well as allowing us to grow our operations and recruit new colleagues, providing opportunities for people to develop rewarding careers.
It’s also a large part of our company culture and values, that are centred around always doing the right thing. This is evident in the social value activity we participate in, our ambition to launch new services to better support our clients, and our robust approach to compliance.
Growing our business without losing our values
These company values have always been extremely important to us over the past four decades. In recent years through a period of sustained growth and expansion, it’s been even more vital to ensure we remain true to them.
That’s why we work with Great Place To Work® to anonymously survey our colleagues and understand their experiences working within the NRL Group. In our recent 2026 survey, 95% agreed we were a great place to work, securing us the prestigious accolade for the second consecutive time. Amongst the feedback, the family feel of our company was mentioned in 23% of responses.
Preparing for our next period of growth
Nationally recognised reassurance such as our Great Place To Work® certification and our position as one of Insider’s Top 250 businesses in the North West are important to us, because they help us reflect on how far we have already come.
As we forge plans for our next period of expansion, we join with our colleagues to celebrate the progress we have made to date, and the role they have all played in reinforcing our company values and personable approach to how we do business.
